Interrupting Active and Implicit Bias  This session builds on the concepts of explicit and implicit bias.  Topics include interrupting active bias and recovering from being interrupted, including preparation before the incident occurs:

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the connection between active and implicit bias.
  • Learn individual and group techniques to interrupt and respond to active bias.
  • Discover strategies on how to respond when your own bias is being interrupted.

Implicit Bias and Micro-aggressions  This session introduces the concepts of implicit   bias and micro-aggressions.  Topics include interrupting active bias and recovering from being interrupted, preparation before the incident occurs, micro-aggressions: micro-assaults, micro-insults and micro-invalidations.Learning Objectives:

  • Create awareness surrounding the connection between bias and micro-aggressions.
  • Explore how micro-aggressions impact individuals and institutions.
  • Learn techniques to interrupt active bias and mitigate the occurrence of micro-aggressions.
  • Discover strategies on how to respond when your own bias is being interrupted.

Racial Inequity and Structural Racism  This session introduces the concepts of structural racism through a systems lens.  Topics covered include individual, institutional and structural racism; implicit bias.Learning Objectives:

  • Explore the three levels of racism.
  • Understand the influence and impact of implicit bias in structural racism.
  • Understand how structural racism develops and is sustained.
  • Learn how to use a systems analysis.
  • Develop strategic approaches to address structural inequity.

Basic Allyship  This session introduces the concept of Allyship.  Topics include privilege and anti-oppression, ally responsibility and roles.Learning Objectives:

  • Discover what it means to be an ally.
  • Understand the role and power of privilege.
  • Learn different forms of anti-oppression work.
